On Friday, Prince William married Kate Middleton after a very long courtship/shacking up. I don't normally follow the British royals; why follow people who have messier lives than I do but with nicer clothes. But today, I got up earlier than my normal 5:30 am and became misty eyed at seeing Queen Elizabeth walking into Westminister Abbey and Kate and her father driving through the clear streets of London. I'm not sure why I became interested. I suspect that this wedding symbolized the Britain that I love; the formality, beauty and tradition that was the British Monarchy before the tabloids. Unfortunately, when I read about Britain, I read about images of violence, terrorism, a large portion of the public on one form of government assistance and a horrendous health care system. The wedding temporarily showed a pageantry and beauty that we occasionally need in a difficult world.
I apologize for the last two years of not contributing to this blog. I also went to Rome during the hiatus and also made another trip to Trinidad and taken a couple of writing courses. But we talk about all those things later.
