Permanent Residence in Middle Class Land

I finally joined the ranks of the middle class...I got a car. It isn't the most flashy or trendy car, a sensible 2002 Nissan Sentra. I recieved a call from Dad about a potential car. I was coming out of Pacific Mall, an Asian-themed mall north of my workplace. A friend of the family knew a mechanic that bought cars and fixed them up. He found a Sentra at a price I wanted to pay;$5000. Dad wanted to know if I was interested in seeing the car. I was in no hurry to buy a car; at 28, I had become accustomed to planning my day around public transit. But I liked the taste of independance. The friend of the family picked me up to see the car; Dad would meet us there. The mechanic was at Weston Rd and Steeles. We had to go behind a building and I had visions of an underground chop shop. The cars surrounded the garage included a shiny Honmda Accord for $7,000 and and a couple of carcasses of cars. The owner wasn't there but a couple of the emloyees were there. I saw the car, a beige Nissan Sentra; it looked decent. Dad said, " You should get the car, just put it in the garage since its a good deal. I liked the idea of getting the car and said, " Lets get the car." The friend of the family said that the would make the arrangements.

After a week of signing forms and arranging insurance, I finally took possession of the car. When I wrote the check and entering the last zero, I remarked to Dad, I feel like an adult now. Dad laughed. The following Saturday, I drove the car back home with Candice. I could go where I wanted and when. I migrated from the land of bus to the kingdom of the drivers.
